You’ve probably seen photos of cranberry bogs in action during harvest season. Ocean Spray commercials with those rakes among acres of the red berries?
Now, how about jumping in and helping a small family farm with their harvesting? We’ll put on some waders and learn the various techniques for collecting cranberries (and take home your own box of berries!).
Plus, we’ll cover other small town Maine attractions like eating lots of lobster, boating, and visiting the gorgeous Acadia National Park.
It’s an easy way to fit a lot into a long holiday weekend (Columbus Day).
Hotel, transportation, activities and some meals are included.
For all details, pricing, and to sign up, please visit http://www.makingtravelhappen.com/journeys/the-maine-attraction/
Happy travels!
(Note: You’ll fly and meet us in Bangor, ME, but from there it’ll be all about the road trip)

It’s time for Old Town Alexandria to get’s its very first boutique hostel! Alexandria was once part of the District of Columbia, but the Commonwealth of Virginia decided to take it back. It’s also considered George Washington’s hometown.
You can support this noble project through our crowdfunding campaign online at http://www.fundable.com/dc-metro-hostel. What’s crowdfunding you ask? It’s where you get some awesome rewards for making a contribution. One of those sweet rewards is a day-long private charter from the D.C. metro area on our HostelHiker minibus with 14 friends for the day. The smallest contribution that you can make is $20, but just think of what we could build if everyone put in $20!
Check in out and help make this hostel come to life.

If you are still looking for a place to stay for the Presidential Inauguration happening this Monday, January 21, then consider staying in neighboring cities at HI-Harpers Ferry Hostel or HI-Baltimore Hostel. Both are on the MARC line, which is running special Monday. If staying at the hostel in Harpers Ferry, we will have a $5 shuttle to and from the train station all weekend. And you can’t beat the price of a friendly hostel.
If you are in the D.C. area and in need of last minute transportation for your group (5-14 people), then let us know. We have our minibus available for hire. A great idea to get some presidential history in before Monday’s events is a visit to George Washington’s estate at Mount Vernon just south of Alexandria. It’s an easy drive from the King Street Metro, but it’s a pain using mass transit to get all the way there.
We are looking forward to a new season this year! It’s been a bit slow getting started, but we are getting there. Our online booking should be easier to understand and use. And we are working to offer some discounts for our Facebook fans.
Service between D.C., BWI Airport, and Baltimore is offered daily now. And service to Dulles Airport and Harpers Ferry will start soon. We will also be offering some package deals for weekend retreats to Harpers Ferry to include transportation, lodging, and activities.
We are always welcome to new idea, so feel free to leave a comment!

We are planning to offer inclusive weekend retreats to historic Harpers Ferry, which is on the crossroads of the Appalachian Trail and C&O Canal Towpath and the convergence of Maryland, Virgina, and West Virginia. We would bunk at HI-Harpers Ferry Hostel. We need your help planning the activities. Answer the poll below to make your voice heard!
